Upper Allen Township established its Zoning Hearing Board (ZHB) in accordance with the provisions of Article IX of the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code, Act of 1968, P.L. 805, No. 247, as reenacted and amended.

The Zoning Hearing Board is a quasi-judicial board consisting of five (5) members who each serve a five (5) year term. The Board requires two things from these members – they must reside within the municipality and not hold any other elected or appointed office. The Board Commissioners appoint the members, but the members act as an independent board.

The purpose of the Board is to hear appeals on the validity of the zoning ordinance, the zoning map, or any decision of the Zoning Officer. In addition, the Board holds power to grant variances from requirements of the zoning ordinance and special exceptions.

Applications are due twenty-three (23) days prior to the next available ZHB meeting date. Meeting Minutes will be posted online after approval by the board at the next regularly scheduled meeting.
