Sewer Backup or Overflow?Should you experience a sewer back-up or overflow in your home or business, please contact the Township office immediately at 717-766-0756. After normal business hours, please call County Control at 717-238-9676.

Township personnel will respond and attempt to determine whether the problem is in the public sanitary sewer piping or the private building sewer, and appropriate corrective actions will be taken, if necessary.

Sewage Grinder Pump Loaner PolicyThe Township owns a limited number of spare grinder pumps and retains them for emergency use or purchase when an operating grinder pump either fails or requires maintenance. Spare grinder pumps are available with the following conditions:

  • Grinder pumps obtained from the Township must be installed by a licensed plumber;
  • Loaner pumps must be returned thoroughly cleaned and in good condition within 30 days unless otherwise approved in writing by the Township; and
  • Property owners will assume ownership of the grinder pump and will be billed for the cost of a similar grinder pump if it is not returned within 30 days unless otherwise agreed in writing by the Township.
Sign A Waiver For A Loaner PumpThe Township requires property owners to sign a loaner form when receiving a loaner pump and reserves the right to impose a penalty to homeowners who fail to return the pump on time or for a damaged pump.

Article VII, Section 200-129 of the Township Code states that the owner shall be wholly and solely responsible for the cost and expense of proper operation, repair, and maintenance of the grinder pump system serving the owner’s improved property. The Township shall have no responsibility for the operation, repair, replacement or maintenance of any part of any grinder pump system, except for providing the emergency use of spared grinder pumps as set forth above.

The Township stores spare grinder pumps at its Grantham Wastewater Treatment Plant, located at 400 Creekside Drive, Mechanicsburg. The procedure for obtaining a spare pump is for the property owner or plumber to call the Township as follows:

Licensed/Approved Septic Haulers ListThe Upper Allen Township Board of Commissioners provides this list of licensed pumpers/haulers solely to inform residents of the persons or firms who have been licensed to perform service within Upper Allen Township.

Licensing is simply designed to ensure that there will be proper disposal by the licensee of the pumped septage under the provisions of Ordinance #605.

The providing of this list does not constitute an endorsement of any pumper/hauler on the list, nor does it constitute a warranty or certification of services to be provided or fees to be charged. These matters are to be determined by the resident and the pumper/hauler chosen by the resident.
